    Minimum Steps

To exercise even basic Sentinet functionality, you should follow minimum steps described below:

    1. Install Sentinet product.

    2. Configure Sentinet Product.

      Note

Installation and Configuration are two different processes, which are executed sequentially. Installation process runs MSI package to copy all required files to the computer system where Sentinet will be running. Configuration process configures Sentinet components to communicate with each other and to process calls to managed customers’ APIs.

Installation and Configuration steps are one-time processes. Once Sentinet is installed and configured, it will be operated remotely and security using only Sentinet Administrative console, an interactive browser application.

After Sentinet is installed and configured use Sentinet Administrative Console to place your physical (backend) APIs under API Management.

    1. Register your physical (backend) REST API or a SOAP Service.

    2. Design new virtual service that will be used as a façade service for your registered physical service. Virtual services are designed to be hosted on Sentinet Node(s) (a.k.a API Gateway).

      a. Using simple drag-and-drop interaction, design the structure for your virtual API.

      b. Create inbound endpoint(s) for your virtual API along with the desired security policies and authentication schemes.

      c. Assign Access Control (authorization rules) to your virtual API.

      d. Promote Virtual Service to an Active state, which will trigger Sentinet Node to open and configure virtual API’s endpoint(s).

    Note

Steps 3 and 4 described above are typical minimum steps, but they do not represent all the options and scenarios offered by Sentinet. For example, you can design as many virtual services as you need (repeat step 4) for an existing physical (backend) service registered only once (step 3). Also, User Guide describes Virtualization Profiles feature, when entire step 4 can be implemented through a one-click feature.
