Deployment Process Overview
The deployment process of each Sentinet component consists of installation followed by configuration.
Installation
Sentinet is shipped in a single installation package, Sentinet.msi file.
An installation package can be used to install any specific Sentinet installation features or all of the installation features on a single computer. The installation process installs files required to create Sentinet applications, however, it does not automatically create Sentinet applications. Table below lists available installation features.
Installation Feature | Description |
---|---|
Nodes Engine | Installs Sentinet Nodes Engine. Select this feature to install components required to configure the machine to host one or more Sentinet Nodes. |
Repository Web Application | Installs Sentinet Repository Web application. |
Developer Portal | Installs Sentinet API Developer Portal application. |
Documentation | Installs Sentinet Documentation. |
Samples | Installs Sentinet extensibility code samples, Sentinet Management API samples, and a sample application with REST APIs and SOAP services, and sample scripts for Sentinet automated deployments. |
Configuration
After installation, Sentinet components require configuration.
Repository Web Application is configured by the Repository Configuration program installed as part of the Repository Services installation feature.
Repository Configuration program allows administrators to:
Create a new, or attach to existing Sentinet Repository database (with an option to create a new, or attach to existing separate Sentinet Monitoring database).
Create and configure new or update existing Repository Web Application.
Create top-level Sentinet Repository administrator account.
Sentinet Nodes are special proxy applications hosted in the IIS server. They are created and configured in the Microsoft IIS Manager console using Sentinet Node Configuration Wizard, which is automatically installed as a plug-in module in the IIS Manager console. Sentinet Node Configuration Wizard allows administrators to:
Create a new Sentinet Node
Update existing Sentinet Node
Delete existing Sentinet Node
Developer Portal Web Application is configured by the Developer Portal Configuration program installed as part of the Developer Portal installation feature.
Developer Portal Configuration program allows administrators to:
Attach to existing Sentinet Repository database (with an option to attach to existing separate Sentinet Monitoring database).
Create or attach to a new Developer Portal CMS database.
Create and configure new or update existing Developer Portal Web Application.
